‘Michelle’ is a portrait of a shell that I procured when I used to work on the trawlers with my late Step Father. This was back in the 80s when they used to drag their nets along the bottom of the ocean – bottom trawling – to catch prawns. We used to bring home all sorts of sea life and this shell was one of them. The animal inside was alive and it slid along the table overnight. So glad the fishing industry has changed now. I still have this shell and she’s a beauty.
